Kelly Clarkson would want to be with a fellow American Idol alumnus if she were stranded on a lonely island.
The hypothetical situation was brought up during a round of “Playing Dice With God” on Thursday’s (May 1) episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, which featured Tina Fey and Will Forte as guests.
When the American Idol winner’s dice roll fell into the “Personal” category under the heavenly light of the studio, the invisible announcer—that is, “God”—asked, “If you had to be stranded on an island with one former famous co-worker, who would you choose and why?”
“I am going to say — she seems like a fun hang for a while — so I am going to say J-Hud,” Clarkson said without missing a beat. My choice is Jennifer Hudson.
The future EGOT was abruptly removed in seventh place two years later in one of the most contentious voting outcomes in the show ‘ history, while Clarkson won the first season in 2002. The two celebrities never met on Idol. But more than ten years later, they did wind up collaborating and competing against each other as coaches on The Voice. (Cheval Shepherd’s triumph in season 15 gave Clarkson her second straight victory; Kennedy Holmes of Team J-Hud finished in fourth place.)
In addition to joining her Idol predecessor in the daytime TV trenches, Hudson launched her own talk show, The Jennifer Hudson Show, in 2022 after spending time in NBC’s renowned spinning chairs.
