On Thursday, May 1, Benson Boone performed his trademark backflip to tease his impending Saturday Night Live performance.
The pop sensation is absent from the first Saturday Night Live promo, missing his cue when host Quinta Brunson enthusiastically announces him as the musical guest for the show. SNL star Sarah Sherman remarks, “Huh, he was supposed to flip into frame,” which makes Brunson anxious. “Yeah, I hope he is okay,” Brunson says.
It is only when the two ladies begin yelling Boone’s name that the singer of “Beautiful Things” leaps onto the screen, backflipping into Studio 8H as Brunson and Sherman scream in shock. “Hey ladies! “Gotcha!” he adds, grinning.)
In a second teaser, Brunson humorously mutters, “He be flippin’,” under her breath while preventing a euphoric Boone from performing another flip.
The 2025 Grammy candidate for best new artist is not the only one who jumps with joy in the video. With a carefree “I will figure it out!” attitude, Sherman offers to be the one to attempt the gymnastics routine in the last segment. As an on-set medic administers to her (false) injuries, the comic is left sprawled out on the studio floor, unable to move, her limbs twisted in strange angles. Of course, this leads to disaster.
